Alfred on “Juno”

This time around I had the pleasure of viewing the film Juno that was written by Minnesota native Diablo Cody. Trivia tidbit; Diablo wrotethis movie over her lunch break at a Starbuck’s coffee shop. The movie was a welcome and refreshing perspective on a coming of age story.Among the stars were Michael Cera (Superbad, Arrested Development), Allison Janney (The West Wing, Drop Dead Gorgeous, etc.), and theinfamous Jason Bateman (Arrested Development, Smoking Aces, etc.). I must say it was exciting to see Jason Bateman in this film. I havebeen a fan of his since his controversial beginnings, playing Michael J. Fox’s sister in the hit ’80s sitcom Family Ties. Admittedly I feared forhis career when he chose to take up the lead role in Teen Wolf Two, but like the professional he is he took that role and really made thatmovie spectacular.Back to the movie, it was set in Minnesota similar to another great film, Drop Dead Gorgeous. This film centered around a girl named Junoplayed by Ellen Page (Hard Candy, X-Men 3) and follows her as she deals with being a pregnant and headstrong teenager in rural Minnesota. The film’s soundtrack and comedic interludes were totally boss and had me sometimes thinking I was watching Napoleon Dynamite meetsGarden State but all in all this film was golden. Even if you don’t watch the film check out the soundtrack for some quirky tunes that will getstuck in your head. So if you’re looking for a film that will do good to warm your heart during this cold winter look to Juno.
